Thai Massage Bristol
What is Thai Massage?
Thai Massage is a unique type of bodywork with a very long tradition being developed 2500 years ago. It originates from Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine, Yoga and Acupressure.
Thai Massage is often called “yoga for lazy people” or “passive yoga”. This is because the therapist applies gentle Yoga stretches combined with the receiver’s deep breathing, which brings similar effects as that of yoga: the release of tension and blockages in the body and a calming to the mind. The main difference is that the receiver stays totally relaxed and the therapist does the stretching.
The treatment
The receiver wears his/her own loose clothing throughout the treatment and the massage is done on a firm futon or mat on the floor rather than a raised table. This allows for many movements and techniques to be used that are not practical or effective on the table. The Massage may be done in a face-up, facedown, side lying and/or sitting position. There is no use of oil in this treatment.
During the treatment I will use different techniques: application of gentle but deep pressure, stretching and mobilisation of the joints, gentle rocking and twisting, thumbing on the body’s energy lines, called ‘sen’ in the Thai massage tradition.
What are the benefits?
